Google Wave
I got a Google Wave invite today and now have 8 to give, so... It seems pretty CPU heavy and not very ready yet, but I haven't played around with it yet. Anyway, if you want one, let me know.

Grandma Likes Her Bach (with a little buzz)
Interesting article from the Washington Post about the growing acceptance of weed among middle-aged Americans -- and what that means for legalization in the U.S.
My favorite part's near the end, though:
"One older smoker who doesn't mind outing herself is Florence Siegel, an 88-year-old artist from New York who has been smoking regularly since her early 50s. That's when the family's pediatrician suggested they try marijuana together to see "what the kids were so excited about." The pediatrician didn't feel a thing. Siegel said she never stopped.
Now her routine is to sit in her favorite chair each evening, listen to Bach and take a few hits from one of her many pipes."

Edward Sharpe
Don't know if these guys are making waves in the States, but I'm hooked on their new album... and this song (actually, couldn't fall asleep with it running through my head -- hopefully that's now resolved):

Google Labs
Just accidently sent a mail and found this solution:
I think it only holds the e-mail for 5-10 seconds so you have to reclaim it pretty quick, but is good for misaddressed e-mails, forgot to attach a document, etc. Plus, it's just a matter of "enabling" the function and it's there, even if you never use it.
While not post-worthy in itself, it led me to the Google labs list (under Settings -> Labs) and there are tons of cool things in there you just hit "Enable" and they are activated. I always knew Google Labs existed, but never really looked around...and if you haven't, take a gander, there is some cool stuff in there.

Wonkette's Annual Children’s Treasury of Terrible 9/11 Art
excerpt:
How did such a truly awful, gut-wrenching event inspire such stupid crap? It’s just part of our modern, idiotic culture — the same mouth-breathing instinct that compels people to pile a bunch of wet stinking stuffed animals at the site of a fatal car crash, or order a hundred Thug Life “memorial T-shirts” to remember some shithead gangsta teen who got himself shot, or make a GeoCities memorial site for Princess Diana (with animated GIFs and MIDI music of “Candle In The Wind”).

Falin
"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil."

Top-Notch Journalism
Interesting sidenote: I looked up "top-notch" to see if it's hyphenated, and it turns out there's two ways to do it! Julie's singing in the musical is top notch. He prepared a top-notch meal before the movie and dessert for afterward. It's only hyphenated if it precedes a nominal. Crazy. Oh, and Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat idiot.

Physics (Revisted)
These look like some pretty cool physics lectures (based on watching the first one)... Apparently, Bill Gates has been wanting to publish these for 20 years, and finally has. (You'll have to install Microsoft's Silverlight to watch, but as annoying as it is, I think it's worth it).

What's your pit type?
I randomly saw this on TV a couple weeks ago and Aust and I can't stop referencing it. This new ad campaign is the weirdest advertising angle on deodorant I've ever seen! I can only find a link that shows it really tiny... but you have to play it multiple times to see the different types of guys with different types of pits. A proud heavy sweater, an ashamed hairy pit man, and a clueless sensitive pit guy, plus the intense music.... it's priceless! Now I'm totally curious, what pit type are you guys?
p.s. I think this website is the production company that produced it and it's a "featured work" lol.
http://spon.com/ (you have to click on the 2nd featured work that shows deodorant sticks) Enjoy!

Good Luck With Your First Crap...
James, hope you don't mind me posting this, but it's too cool not to document. So during yesterday's Boers and Bernstein program on AM670, James closed out the 'Who Ya' Crappin' segment with a beautiful crap of Dan Bernstein regarding his knowledge of Caribbean music genres.
Click on the picture or check it out here - it's the last crap from the 04/16/09 edition.

Instapaper
As I just did this with the link James sent...I thought I'd pass this website on:
Instapaper
You put a "read later" button in your bookmark bar and the site keeps a running list of articles you wanted to "read later" when you have time. It also works with the iPhone. I like it because it has a no frills layout...there is this one too though:
To Read Later
It looked fancier (based on their frontpage) whereas I just wanted a place to keep a list as I usually have no more than 5 articles in the queue. Maybe it has a nicer iPhone layout though...idk.
Enjoy!

Well, it's official
When it comes to civil liberties, transparency, and justice, the Obama administration has proven itself WORSE than the Bush administration, and that is not hyperbole. Level heads in January and February were hopeful and excited, but tempered that enthusiasm with steady declarations that we need to wait and see what he does before we judge.
The Obama DOJ has asserted, literally, a brand new argument - never before uttered even by the extremists in the Bush administration - that the authority of the Patriot Act extends so far as to protect the government from lawsuits against specifically named officials alleged to have violated the laws by which this nation supposedly defines itself.
In my opinion, with respect to the above parameters of governance, there's no need to suspend one's judgement any longer. The evidence is in.
Those of you who've talked politics with me know that my favorite source and biggest influence is Glenn Greenwald, who covers the whole thing via the link above.

Pamela Anderson Just Hot
This is from a story on the BBC's website about Pamela Anderson urging people in Mumbai to stop killing stray dogs and neuter/spay them instead.
Here's a response from a doctor there:
Medical professional Samir Guliyani, a cyclist, said "maybe killing is not the best way but stray dogs are a menace".
"The way they suddenly pounce on bike riders is dangerous. Something has to be done and they have to be off roads."
On the subject of Pamela herself, Mr Guliyani said: "She is hot but why is she writing to the municipal commissioner?"
